Dr. J.J.T.H. Roelofs
Pathologist AMC

Joris Roelofs (1972) works as a nephropathologist at the AMC Amsterdam. He studied medicine in Leuven (KUL, Belgium) and Amsterdam (VU), and combined his training as a pathologist with doctoral research at the AMC Amsterdam. His doctoral research was awarded by the Striker Lilian Young Investigator Award of the Renal Pathology Society.

After his training he worked as a visiting research fellow at the Kirkland Center for Lupus Research (Cornell University Medical College, New York City), where he did research on kidney damage in the context of the antiphospholipid syndrome. His current research focuses on unraveling the role of coagulation proteins and platelets in the development of acute and chronic kidney disease.

Joris Roelofs is one of the organizers and teachers of the European Renal Pathology Course and teacher of the Dutch Boerhaave course Praktische nefropathologie.
